Step 1

Think about your digital story idea

Think about where you live in Gomeroi/Kamilaroi Country and the favourite places you’ve been to on Country.

Your favourite place might be close by to where you live, or extra special places that are a bit tricky to get to – it’s your choice!

Step 2

Plan it out!

How are you going to tell your story?

What parts of it are most important?

What images and sounds might you include?

Write down some general ideas about what you might do so that when you go on your trip you’re on the look out for good things to include in your story.

Step 3

Time to use a phone/ipad!

When you visit your favourite part of Gomeroi/Kamilaroi Country, take photos, record audio, take short videos of things that interest you on your visit.

This is where you can direct how the story develops. What was extra special about this trip to Gomeroi Country? What felt different to other trips you’ve done?

Was Country healthy on this visit? How can you tell?

What animals and plants did you see and engage with? Make sure you put yourself in the story!

Step 4

Revise your digital story

When you get back to the classroom, put the pieces together into a story of your own making! You could use TikTok or an editing app on your phone. Your choice!

Ask a friend, family member or teacher to have a look at your draft story and give you feedback. What do they think is good about it? Where might it be helpful to change things a little?

Step 5

What does it all mean?

Reflect on the process of making your digital story.
How many times did you edit or revise your story?

What were the types of things you were editing and why?

Who did you ask to give you feedback on your story and what suggestions did they provide?

Think about the process of making your digital story – what was involved in gathering information, images and music for your story.

What did this process of making and remaking your story about Gomeroi/Kamilaroi Country help you learn or understand about Country in a more complex way?

Think about the insights you gained in making the digital story. What moments of discovery or reflection did this process allow?

Think about the process of selecting one image or event over another.  What was hard about this process? What was good about it?

Would you share your digital story of your special place on Gomeroi/Kamilaroi Country with others? Why or why not?
